Formed out of a love for the legendary partnership between Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grapelli, 'Cigány Weaver' is one of Australia's most exciting gypsy-jazz ensembles, with a dedicated and passionate following around the country. Their sound is reminiscent of jazz Manouche, traditional swing and Romani music, interwoven with compelling originals and the band’s reinterpretations of classics from popular culture. Through virtuosic and energetic live performances, 'Cigány Weaver' invoke everything from subtle toe-tapping to exuberant dance floor foot-stomping.
The band has performed at many major festivals including Woodford Folk Fesival (QLD) 2016/17, MONA's Dark Mofo (TAS) 2017, Wallaby Creek Festival (FNQ) 2017, Cullulleraine Music Festival (SA) 2018, The Tablelands Folk Festival (FNQ) 2018, Illawarra Folk Festival (NSW) 2019, OzManouche (QLD) 2017 and Perisher Peak Festival (NSW) 2018 to great acclaim. They will also be appearing at Palm Creek Festival (FNQ) 2019.
Whilst touring extensively around Australia, they also maintain regular appearances at Brisbane's most popular live music venues. 'Cigány Weaver' continue to make their stamp on the city's vibrant live music scene, and cement their place as one of Australia's must-see bands.
2019 will bring the eagerly anticipated release of the band’s debut self-titled studio album, alongside a stack of inter-state tour dates...
